Roza| Third pillar of Islam

 In Islam fasting is a practice of avoiding , usually from food,drink,smoking, sexual activity and from sins.The Muslims practices fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.The word sawm(صوم)is used for Roza/fasting in Arabic.

Roza is third pillar of Islam.Sawm is observed between dawn(sehri) to nightfall(iftari) just before the adhan of maghrib is sounded.In this holy month 

the Muslims helps the needy people.They practices 29or30 days fasting.After the fasting they celebrates Eid ul fitar.

benefits of fasting/Roza:

Benefits of fasting are given as under;

  • By the practice of fasting a Muslim come close to ALLAH ALMIGHTY and enjoys the blessings of ALLAH ALMIGHTY.
  • The Muslims abstaining from bad deeds.
  • The Muslims do many virtues in this holy month.In this way they have a peace of mind.
  • When the rich helps the poor they feel calm and get respect from the poor and the poor also have respect for the rich .

  • ALLAH ALMIGHTY revealed the importance of fasting in Quran .

3.In the light of Quran :

"Oh you believe ! fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn self-restraint."The Quran 02:183
  • "But fasting is best for you if you only knew"  (Sura al Baqra 02:184)
  • "And eat and drink untill the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the Black thread of night .Then complete the fast until the sunset."
  • The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran,a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.
